Tony will be speaking about the benefits and challenges of completely integrating a broadcast site into an overall facility control system. New systems and capabilities allow broadcasters to extend their facility control beyond the normal connection of transmitters, antenna switches, and other traditional equipment. Some of these technologies use advanced communication techniques such as IP networking, SNMP protocols and wireless linking, while others involve use of older communications protocols such as serial connections. Tony will outline the various alternatives available for broadcasters seeking to implement an integrated control system. These control plans go beyond the usual broadcast equipment to include HVAC, security, elevator control, servers, firewalls and more.

Sinbad’s Restaurant at Pier 2, as always, is the meeting place. Wednesday the 28th of July is the date and the times are 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM. No-Host bar starts at 11:30 and we sit down to lunch around 12:30, with the presentation at 1:00 p.m. or so. As mentioned above RSVP’s ARE VERY IMPORTANT. Please call; 925-270-9817 is the number.

Steve Lampen
Our own Steve Lampen is the presenter this month, with one of his more innovative concepts to talk to us about.

Steve is well-known as a key player in Belden Wire’s strategy and marketing team, and amongst the things that he’s done for them over the years is to act as a “futurist.”

This month, Steve’s planning to show us some of the things that caused people in the past to fear on-coming technology—and even show us some of the fears WE might have today over the same challenge. A quote from his summary:

“In one hour, Lampen will go from the Spanish Conquistadors in the New World to digital television, and how people resisted technology and the change it brought. How will we be ready for tomorrow? How can we accept tomorrow?…Many of us are building a ‘brick wall’ around ourselves to protect us from that future.”

Yes, that does sound a little different from our usual approach. No, I didn’t make it up. Yes, I DO think it’ll be very entertaining, and informative (those classic descriptions that we all try to use when inviting people to our meetings.) Hope it entices you.

Sinbad’s Restaurant at Pier 2, as always, is the meeting place. Wednesday the 28th of April is the date and the times are 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM. No-Host bar starts at 11:30 and we sit down to lunch around 12:30, with the presentation at 1:00 p.m. or so. Please RSVP by calling me at 925-522-9342 before 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday the 27th. Again, that’s BEFORE 2:00 p.m.

First meeting of the year, and it’s certainly appropriate that our friends from the local office of the FCC should kick things off. Led by Mr. Thomas VanStavern, the topics to be discussed MAY include the Report and Order regarding low power operation (that is, wireless mics), and of course members will have an opportunity to bring up relevant questions of their own. Also, if the weather cooperates, the new “DF Vehicle” will be scheduled for an appearance. (You can run, but you can’t hide from RDF…)

Sinbad’S Restaurant at Pier 2, as always, is the meeting place. Wednesday the 27th of January is the date and the times are 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM. No-Host bar starts at 11:30 and we sit down to lunch around 12:30, with the presentation at 1:00 p.m. or so. Please RSVP by calling 925-522-9342 before 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday the 24th.

Turkey Time Again…. And it’s the Last Wednesday before the Last Thursday… so unless you’re off to Aunt Hazel’s for the duration of a long weekend, … it couldn’t be a better time to catch up on all things wireless (microphone-wise) presented by one of the most respected and widely implemented manufacturers of professional grade wireless systems, LECTROSONICS.

Leo’s Professional Audio, Oakland, CA is proud to sponsor Mr. Matt Robertson of Lectrosonics at the November meeting. Matt will be discussing wireless challenges and solutions in an increasingly crowded RF environment. Matt’s industry credentials have provided him with a solid foundation and widespread experience in this arena. Dating from the mid-80’s Matt has served as Western Regional Mgr. (SONY Professional Audio Division); Vice President, Western Operations (Sennheiser Electronics); National Sales Mgr (Harman International Spirit/Soundcraft); and since 2000, Sales & Market Development; Western Region (Lectrosonics). Matt brings a unique perspective to an area of operations that challenges everyone that deals in the Dark Arts of wireless microphone technology & usage. Hoping your schedule permits you to take advantage of this opportunity and have something for lunch other than turkey (which is bound to be on your menu for the 3 or 4 days following!).

Sinbad’s Restaurant at Pier 2, as always, is the meeting place. Wednesday the 25th of November is the date and the times are 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM. No-Host bar starts at 11:30 and we sit down to lunch around 12:30, with the presentation at 1:00 p.m. or so. As mentioned above RSVP’s ARE VERY IMPORTANT. Please do so, if you haven’t. If you would rather call then 925-270-9817 is the number. Operators are standing by.

If you‚ve got a diesel generator and it’s getting a little long in the tooth, then you’re probably looking at a replacement pretty soon. Not because what you own doesn’t‚ work, but because the regulators have radically changed the laws.
Our friends at Western Machinery Electric are the presenters this month, with the above subject under discussion. The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is going to be one of the stickier outfits to deal with, so the top of the topic will be their emission requirements and how they will impact you. They’ll also talk about the “Tier” ratings and how Permits to Construct and Operate are generated, as well as the current requirements for reporting operating hours and conditions.
It ain’ gonna be easy, that’s for sure. This is the time to learn, Because 2010 is almost here.

Sinbad’s Restaurant at Pier 2, as always, is the meeting place. Wednesday the 28th of October is the date and the times are 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM.
