Guy Anchor Galvanic Corrosion; Causes, Risk Evaluation, Detection, Prevention
Tower collapse due to galvanic corrosion and subsequent anchor rod failure is a well-documented phenomenon increasing in frequency. The effects of galvanic corrosion go under-detected employing the current industry-standard inspection methods resulting in sudden, often catastrophic tower failures. This abstract will present; causes of galvanic corrosion, risk evaluation, detection procedures, and prevention methods along with the advantages and disadvantages pertaining to each method and their relative cost. Also presented is ERI’s experimentation and findings concerning a detection method that has proven to be non-intrusive and non-destructive, yet highly accurate and cost-effective.
